About Paul

Paramedics have attended over 100 category one emergency calls for me across the past eighteen months and they continue to do so. I am eternally grateful for every single one of them. The ambulance service is a truly frontline force, and the dedication I have witnessed first-hand has left a lasting impression on me.

I have always been drawn to health and social care, completing several courses over the years  but I wanted more. I wanted to understand the science, the systems, and the people behind the blue lights. I wanted to give something back.

That's why I'm now studying an Access to Higher Education Diploma in Paramedic Science, with plans to progress to an Undergraduate and then Postgraduate degree. Whether my path leads to attending emergency calls, working in a control centre, or advising from a base  I don't yet know. But I will keep progressing.

My condition  Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) is complex, but it is understandable once you take the time to learn about it. I don't believe that GPs, paramedics, or nurses lack the capacity to understand it. What I do believe is that the system surrounding FND is too often governed by those who claim expertise yet are rarely accessible when emergency services need real, informed input. That disconnect has consequences and it's something I feel strongly about changing.

My journey is personal. But I hope it becomes useful to others too.
